Extension of outlets
An outlet is the many different ways the video can be shown to sell the song. While a few years ago, promotion was limited to appearances and word of mouth, there has since been advancements in certain fields that gain attention. This includes music channels on television as well as video sharing websites like Youtube. Many artists also have their own websites that they can use to display their latest music videos, providing yet another outlet to display their work.

Promotion
Promoting an artist or their music has become a lot easier in recent years thanks to the expansion of television channels devoted to playing music videos, social networking websites like Facebook and video sharing websites like youtube. Hundreds of millions of people log onto these types of sites and as a result, a whole host of products are promoted on them. The artist will often go on tour to promote their new release in different parts of the world in order to gain more attention in places they are not as well known.

Extension of income/power
The extension of income/power is how much money or power the artist has per video. The power is all about having creative control when it comes to the artists image, while the director might want to make a music video in one way, the artist might not like the direction their image is going. In some cases, the artist themselves might have creative control to the point where they decide entirely how the video might go. One example of this is for Slipknot’s ‘Snuff’, this video was co-directed by the bands bassist, Paul Gray. This video was created with the production value of a short film.

Producers Strategies
While most major labels will have creative control on everything that happens in the music video, self-produced music videos would be entirely created by the artist themselves and will closest resemble the image the band would like for themselves as it would have as little outside interference as the artist themselves accept.
